Day 1 – Saturday 09 June 2018 Depart Auckland – Arrive Port Vila
Arrive PORT VILA
Port Vila is the capital of Efate and is the international gateway to Vanuatu, and is a vibrant island offering a mix of restaurants, bars, shops, markets and more. Vila is located around a magnificent natural harbour and is flanked by a stunning lagoon. Waterfalls, blue holes and beaches are scattered around the island and there are plenty of tours to uncover them.
On arrival in Port Vila you’ll be met and transferred to your hotel for the next 7 nights. The Warwick Le Lagon is set amid 75 acres of lush tropical gardens and nestled on the shores of Erakor Lagoon. All rooms are complete with comfortable and spacious interiors, finished in an authentic Melanesian style and feature either furnished patios, balconies or private decks, air conditioning, an iron & ironing board, tea & coffee making facilities, hairdryer, satellite TV, and DVD player.
Tonight is a welcome function for the group at your hotel.
Day 2 – Sunday 10 June 2018 (B, D) Croquet Competition Round 1 /Melanesian Feast
Breakfast buffet at your hotel this morning.
Today is Round 1 of the croquet competition (morning or afternoon play) and the rest of the day is at leisure. Your hotel features a fantastic range of on-site facilities and activities including swimming pool, tennis courts, 12-hole golf course, beach activities, gymnasium, restaurants, a bar, hobie cats, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking and much more.
Take the time to wander around the town of Port Vila. You won't find exclusive boutiques or high-end fashion but you will find some bargains. You might like to try an authentic French patisserie for a pain au chocolate or some crepes. Make sure you wander through the fresh fruit markets. Coconuts, yams, live crabs and hens, and endless fresh local produce is available to purchase and proceeds all go right back to the villages.
Tonight is some local entertainment and a poolside feast. Enjoy Vanuatu’s harmonious local music bands and be swept away by the cultural dance show featuring authentic island costumes and some kava tasting.
Day 3 – Monday 11 June 2018 (B) Round 2 Croquet Competition
Day 4 – Tuesday 12 June 2018 (B, L) Day Cruise
Breakfast buffet at your hotel this morning. Today venture out from Port Vila Harbour aboard “Caraid”, a 60ft luxury motor sailer. Enjoy a calm trip to the crystal-clear waters of Paradise Cove beach where there are fresh water shower facilities and toilet facilities. The boat moors in 6 meters of water not far from the shore with no coral beneath the boat allowing you to jump off if you wish and explore the fringing reef. Fish feeding ensures that you will be swimming in a tropical aquarium. Kayaks are available on shore and there is ample shade and seating for guests who do not wish to be in the water the whole time. Snorkel with Maki or Josh in the water and let them guide you to the best coral viewing spots. There is an optional guided bush walk for those who wish to participate and it takes about 15 minutes with information about local flora and fauna. A delicious morning tea and later a magnificent barbeque lunch is served with wine or beer followed by fresh tropical fruit platters and afternoon tea on the return journey. Dinner tonight is own arrangements.
Day 5 – Wednesday 13 June 2018 (B) Round 3 Croquet Competition
Breakfast is at the resort this morning. Today is Round 3 of the croquet competition (morning or afternoon). The rest of the day is at leisure. Lunch and dinner today are own arrangements.
Day 6 – Thursday 14 June 2018 (B, D) Round 4 + Finals Croquet Competition
Breakfast is at the resort this morning. Today is Round 4 of the croquet competition followed by the finals. Lunch today is own arrangements.
Tonight is a Presentation Dinner at your hotel to celebrate the week’s play.
Day 7 – Friday 15 June 2018 (B, L) Round Island Safari
Breakfast buffet at your hotel this morning. Today a round island safari will take you around the island of Efate accompanied by your driver/guide who will give you some insight into the history and lifestyle of Vanuatu. Passing pandanus fringed coastlines you’ll sight true Melanesian villages of the South Pacific. Enjoy a swim and view beautiful white sand beaches and appreciate the crystal-clear turquoise waters as you travel around the island. Weather permitting, a further highlight of today’s tour is witnessing the time-honoured art of fire-walking. The tradition and preparation the men undertake before performing will be explained. You journey on passing more villages to catch glimpses of local life, before arriving at a local restaurant for a buffet-style lunch. Following lunch, stops will also be made to view remnants of the American forces involvement in Vanuatu during World War 2. During your afternoon refreshment stop, you have time to cool off with a swim in the tropical waters. On the way back to Port Vila you will pass Klem’s Hill Lookout which provides a superb view over Mele Bay, Hideaway Island and the township in the distance. Dinner tonight is own arrangements.
